Scholarships
Based on an application for a housing scholarship pursuant to Article 13 of the JAMU Scholarship Regulations, a decision on whether to grant or deny the scholarship is made based on the information provided by the student in the JAMU Information System. The student submits the application for all three scholarship periods via the Information System during the period designated for enrollment. The amount of the housing stipend for each scholarship period is determined by the Rector’s Decision on the amount of the housing scholarship for the specific housing period.
The housing scholarship is allocated to the student:
- who is enrolled in an accredited degree program offered as full-time study,
- who has not exceeded the standard duration of study prescribed for any degree program in which they are enrolled (including concurrent enrollment),
- who does not have a permanent residence within the Brno-City district.
The housing stipend is awarded for the entire stipend period or the remaining portion thereof and is paid for individual housing periods. If a student meets the conditions for receiving the housing stipend only for part of a housing period, a proportional portion of the housing stipend will be awarded. The stipend period for the housing stipend consists of the housing period
- the first from October 1 to December 31,
- the second from January 1 to March 31, and
- the third from April 1 to June 30.
Pursuant to Article 15(2) of the Scholarship Regulations, students in doctoral programs are not eligible for a housing scholarship.
The social scholarship, or rather the conditions for its award, are governed by Section 91(2)(d) and (3) of Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education Institutions, as amended. A decision on whether to award the scholarship is made based on the student’s application, accompanied by the necessary attachments.
Based on an application for the entitlement-based social scholarship pursuant to Section 91(2)(d) and (3) of Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education Institutions, as amended, a decision on whether to grant or deny the scholarship is made based on the information the student provides to the Academic Affairs Office of the Rector’s Office.
A social scholarship is granted to a student who is entitled to child allowance under a special legal regulation (the Act on State Social Support) if the family’s relevant income, as determined for the purposes of child allowance, does not exceed the product of the family’s subsistence minimum and a coefficient of 1.5. A student may claim entitlement to a social scholarship only once during a given period.
The entitlement-based social scholarship is granted for the standard duration of study, i.e., for 10 months in the academic year; the monthly amount of the entitlement-based social scholarship corresponds to one-fourth of the basic minimum wage per month (the scholarship amount is rounded up to the nearest ten Czech crowns).
Students must submit an application for a needs-based social scholarship to the Student Affairs Office of the Rector’s Office using the appropriate form within one month of enrollment, unless the family’s qualifying income—which does not exceed the product of the family’s subsistence minimum and a coefficient of 1.5—was not determined until after enrollment; in this case, the application may be submitted at any time during the academic year.
Application Form for a Social Scholarship: Application form
The application must be completed, printed, signed (!), and submitted with the required attachment to the Office for studies at the Rectorate.
A student proves eligibility for the scholarship by providing a written confirmation issued at their request by the relevant Employment Office. The student requests a document titled “Notice for the Purpose of Granting a Scholarship,” which confirms that the eligible person is entitled to the state social support benefit of child allowance in the last quarter of the relevant calendar year and that the income for the third quarter of the calendar year, which is decisive for the grant of the benefit, did not exceed the product of the family’s subsistence minimum and a coefficient of 1.5. The “Statement for the Purpose of Granting a Scholarship” is attached to the “Application for a Social Scholarship.”
A social scholarship may be awarded to a student in the event of a difficult social situation. The student shall consult the relevant Vice-Dean or Vice-Dean for Studies about the possibility of awarding this non-revenue social grant.
The Faculty of Theatre announces the collection of applications usually at the beginning of each semester, students consult the possibility of awarding the scholarship with the Vice Dean for Development, Quality, Lifelong Learning and Safety and proceed according to the text of the call. The application form for DF students can be found here: Documents related to studies (IS JAMU).
The achievement scholarship is awarded to a student for outstanding academic performance during the scholarship period, which is the entire study.
The achievement scholarship is awarded to a student who has achieved an overall academic average of at least 95 points and passed the state examination with a grade of “passed with distinction”.
The amount of the achievement scholarship is CZK 7 000.
An exceptional scholarship may be awarded to a student in cases of special consideration, in particular:
a) the demonstrated cost of the student’s participation in 1) an art competition, or 2) an event in fulfillment of the student’s curricular requirements,
b) for the financial provision of projects supporting the development of JAMU in the implementation of accredited study programmes and related educational or artistic activities.
A student may be awarded a study support scholarship
a) to support study abroad in an institutionally supported study programme, or
b) in the Czech Republic.
All information about all scholarships that JAMU can award and pay to its students can be found in the Internal Regulations of the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts of 21 August 2017 No.8/2018 LJ Scholarship Regulations, text here: Scholarship Regulations.
Study-related fees
Tuition fees are governed by Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education Institutions and on Amendments and Supplements to Other Acts (the Higher Education Act), as amended, and Article 104 of the JAMU Statutes – Fee for Extended Study.
Students who study longer than the standard duration of study plus one year are required to pay a tuition fee pursuant to Section 58(3) of the Higher Education Act. The JAMU Statutes specify how these fees are determined and assessed. It is the university’s obligation to assess fees for students who meet the conditions set forth by law.
A student is required to pay tuition fees if the total duration of their studies exceeds the standard duration plus one year*. By law, the total duration of these (assessed) studies includes the duration of ALL studies that were not completed in the regular manner, provided that the student did not complete a study program of the same type after the completion of such studies (for the purposes of tuition fees, the Higher Education Act distinguishes between bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, i.e., without distinguishing between so-called “long” master’s and “follow-up” master’s programs). The period during which multiple “unsuccessful” studies were pursued concurrently is counted only once. The fact that an “unsuccessful” study was pursued concurrently with another study program completed in the regular manner does not preclude its inclusion in the total duration of the subsequently pursued study program.
* Please note that a student’s enrollment period begins on the date of enrollment, not on the first day of the academic year (this applies primarily to first-year students, who typically enroll at the beginning of July).
If a student successfully completes any program of study, any previously “unsuccessfully completed” programs of the same type are no longer counted toward the total duration of study in any subsequent program = after successfully completing a bachelor’s-level program, all previous “unsuccessfully completed” bachelor’s-level programs are no longer counted toward the total duration of study, upon successful completion of a master’s-level program, all previous “unsuccessfully completed” master’s-level programs cease to be counted toward the total duration of study (successful completion of a bachelor’s degree program erases all previous failures in bachelor’s degree programs, and successful completion of a master’s degree program erases all previous failures in master’s degree programs).
Conversely, however, ALL unsuccessful periods of study are included in the current program under review, regardless of whether they were part of a bachelor’s or master’s degree program; for example, the duration of previous unsuccessful studies is included in the current bachelor’s program, regardless of whether the failure occurred in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program.
The amount of the tuition fee for studies that exceed the standard duration of study plus one year is specified in the Notice on the Amount of Tuition Fees and Certain Payments for the given academic year. The student is notified of the obligation to pay the fee via the Decision on the Assessment of the Tuition Fee. For the 2025/2026 academic year, the fee for each additional six-month period of study is CZK 22 300.
Reaching the age of 26 refers to the payment of health and social security, not the fee for longer periods of study.
Study-related fees (i.e., the fee for longer study periods and other study-related fees) are regulated by the REGULATION on the amount of study-related fees and certain reimbursements for the academic year 2025/2026.
Additional information
The tuition fee is assessed by a written decision sent to the student by certified mail to the address listed in the JAMU Information System. In this case, JAMU uses an envelope with a red stripe marked “Do not return, place in mailbox; “hold for 10 days only,” which means that if the student does not pick up the item at the post office within 10 days of being notified of its delivery, the item is placed in their mailbox on the 11th day and is considered delivered!
The tuition fee is assessed for every six calendar months or part thereof from the date the fee obligation arises (which varies for students, i.e., it occurs on different dates), i.e., regardless of the academic year schedule; it does not align with semesters. The period for which the fee is assessed is always specified in the decision as a time range defined by specific “from–to” dates.
A student who terminates or interrupts their studies during the period for which the fee was assessed is not relieved of the obligation to pay the fee; the fee obligation does not cease to exist (since the student’s fee obligation arose at a time when they were still a student).
Within 30 days of the date on which the student received the fee assessment decision, the student has the right to appeal that decision. After this 30-day period has expired, no appeal will be accepted, unless the last day of the period falls on a non-business day—in which case the student may submit the appeal or mail it for delivery on the first following business day. Along with the decision on the fee assessment, the student will receive a brief guide in the envelope explaining how to file an appeal, what information must be included, etc.
If the student files an appeal and the appeal cannot be granted or can only be partially granted, and the student still has difficulty paying the fee, it is possible to submit a request for an installment plan via the JAMU IS. If the appeal is not granted, the fee is due within 90 days from the date the decision on the fee assessment was delivered to the student (this period is extended by the number of days the appeal process took). If the student requests an installment plan, the fee, or its individual installments, is due on the date the student specified for each installment.
If the student does not appeal, the fee is due within 90 days of the date the decision on the fee assessment was delivered.
Payment details (account number, variable symbol) are included in the decision on the fee assessment, and payment must be made by bank transfer.
